DIRECTOR

Covenant Christian Academy Director – Covenant Church (Greer, SC)

Full-Time, Salaried Position (minimum 35 hours per week) | Reports Directly to Church Administrator

Overview:

Covenant Christian Academy (CCA) is the weekday preschool ministry of Covenant Church. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of the preschool and its programs.

Responsibilities and Duties

Program Administration

• Responsible for the daily operation of the preschool program

• Act as liaison between the CCA Advisory Board, CCA staff and the preschool families

• Act as liaison between CCA and the church, attending COVENANT church staff meetings, CCA Advisory Board meetings and COVENANT Church Council Meetings

• Provide community outreach, becoming involved in relevant organizations and educational programs

• Maintain policies and procedures for program operation

• Provide a vision for continuous program development to recruit and maintain enrollment

• Advance the preschool program as a church outreach ministry

• Work closely with the Covenant Children’s Director to:

- ensure the shared facilities, equipment and supplies are equally maintained to properly serve both ministry areas

- facilitate a cooperative spirit between the two ministry areas by continuous communication

• The Director will adhere to the CCA by-Laws and COVENANT employee policies and procedures as established by COVENANT Church.

Program Operation

Management

• Understand DSS Regulations for Child Care Facilities and ensure the program and facilities are in compliance

• Maintain program data including all DSS required records such as:

- Student records: enrollment, health

- Staff records: personnel files, training, background checks, qualifications

- CCA policies and procedures

- Other records as required or necessary

• General office management including cleaning, supplies, furnishings and equipment

• Ensure facility maintenance repairs and requests are addressed

• Work with CCA staff, Advisory Board and COVENANT Church Administrator on the assessment of operational needs and physical plant issues

• Perform periodic checks of classrooms, gym and outdoor play equipment

Personnel

Annually

• Review CCA job descriptions and if necessary, recommend revisions for CCA Advisory Board and SPRC review

• Evaluate teachers and staff on an annual basis

• Recommend salary scale for CCA Advisory Board and SPRC review, with final decision made by SPRC

• In conjunction with CCA Advisory Board, Church Administrator, and SPRC, interview, hire and dismiss CCA employees as needed

• Develop work calendar and schedule for preschool staff

• Conduct regular CCA staff meetings

• Perform frequent classroom observation

• Supervise implementation of licensing and safety procedures

• Ensure and document staff CPR certification, First Aid Training and annual continuing education hours are maintained

• Supervise implementation of program curriculum

• Provide support for teachers

• Maintain a visible presence to staff, students and preschool families

Financial

• Maintain CCA financial records including:

- Employees’ hours to submit to Church Accountant or Accounting Assistant for review and payroll processing

- Work with CHURCH Accountant on monthly tuition invoices and billing adjustments as needed

- Review CCA expenditures and forward to Church Accountant/Administrator for approval and processing

• Along with Church Administrator, Church Accountant and Finance Committee…Annually, review CCA’s budget and prepare next school year budget for approval by the Church Council

• Annually review tuition and salaries and compare with similar programs in the area

• Identify resources, i.e., fundraising, etc. to supplement CCA budget

Educational

• Oversee registration and enrollment process

• Plan, post and maintain a working calendar of program activities

• Issue a monthly newsletter for parents

• Oversee and guide the development of an appropriate educational curriculum that is consistent with the philosophy and objectives of CCA and COVENANT

• Review all class lesson plans, newsletters, calendars and communication Education Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education

Requisite Qualifications and Skills

• Have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and live a lifestyle in accordance with Christian principles

• Must meet DSS Qualifications for Director including be at least twenty-one years old

• Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and Staff

Additional Duties

This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The Director may have other responsibilities from time to time to meet the ongoing needs of the organization and Covenant Church. Covenant Christian Academy is an outreach of Covenant Church and shall be governed by the same leadership committees that oversee the church (Finance, Trustees, SPRC, Church Council, etc.). The Director shall establish an Advisory board for the school (consisting of parents, teachers, CCA staff, church members and church staff) and schedule quarterly meetings with the board.
