Choir/Orchestra Worship Director Job Description
Reports to: Creative Director of Worship
Classification: Part-Time
Position Overview
The worship director will be a musically gifted, spiritually mature, biblically grounded Christian leader responsible for traditional worship ministries under the direction of the Creative Director, Church Administrator & Senior Pastor. The ideal candidate will have experience leading creative traditional worship at a similar-sized church and vast experience shepherding worship teams.
Choir/Orchestra Worship Director
Oversees the Sunday morning choir/orchestra experience and special worship services, in coordination with the Creative Director, Church Administrator and Senior Pastor.
Leads all traditional music programming (Worship Choir, Orchestra, and Instrumentalists, and, when applicable, Student Choir, Children’s Choirs, and small ensembles).
Works with vocalists and instrumentalists to prepare for worship.
Selects and prepares traditional music utilizing Planning Center software under the direction of the Creative Director
Communicates with music ministry staff, volunteers, and families through e-mail, social media, and electronic newsletters
Provides congregational care for music ministry staff, volunteers, and families through hospital visits, calls, and cards in conjunction with the pastoral staff.
Oversees a volunteer support team that helps the Leader with administrative tasks, ministry support, ordering music, and accounting for purchases.
Works with the Creative Director to oversee the traditional worship music budget.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor to effectively meet the objectives of the position.
Education and Experience
This position requires a strong spiritual background and commitment to the church and to the ministry of the church. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Choir/Orchestra Director is required; a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a relevant field is optional.
Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
